Thank You Letter from Joanne
--- Almost a year later from her struggle with recurrent bladder infection.

Dear Ray & Siok Khoon,

It's been a while since I wrote to you  and I reckon the end of the year is an appropriate time to take stock of life's happenings throughout the months.

I would really like to take this opportunity to thank you both for leading me on this path of rediscovering myself. When Ray first told me that I would undergo metamorphosis, I couldn't quite understand the real essence of this totally new concept. However, the funny stares from people I haven't seen in years as well as friends appearing on online friendship networks, asking if I was the Joanne they knew from somewhere, are convincing me that metamorphosis has really taken place. Sometime back, I stood in front of the mirror and took a long look at myself. I couldn't quite recognize the image in the mirror. This journey of self-care, responsibility and rediscovery has indeed bore fruits. I am liking this new-found independence so much that I would do anything to defend the integrity of this concept as well as the many comrades who have transcended societal norms and gone on this healing path.

Today, almost a year from my struggle with potentially serious health conditions, I've emerged a totally different person, not only physically but in all aspects. That, I would assume, is what Ray meant by holistic healing. The battle has not been won yet but victory is soon to come. It will take time to rid my mind of all negative thoughts and emotions yet I am happy that my physical conditions are soon becoming matters of the past.

My commitment to eating and living responsibly has enabled me to wear jeans again, something I haven't been able to do in years. My bladder has been tamed to the extent that I sometimes forget its existence. The bleeding that I've had in my kidneys since childhood has mysteriously disappeared though I'm not drinking half as much water as I used to. I am forgetting what it feels like to be suffering from a bout of gastritis.

It is comforting to know that people have observed and are secretly making changes to their own habits. My students have taken to making ABC juice their first morning beverage. Some have acquired blenders and religiously encouraging their own family members to start thinking about the way they eat. Some family members are slowly cutting off meat while others make it a point to blend their daily smoothies. I am glad and convinced that the living and walking example is the best and most effective advertisement.

Lastly, I've been taking pride in the fact that I've not been approached by people who were once so enthusiastic in selling me credit facilities as well as other financial products simply because they think I can't afford them now. I believe they perceive me to be of school-going age.

Thank you once again for your care and love that was so unconditional. I hope to bring you more good news in time to come.

Wishing you happiness and longevity,
Joanne
