Observation No. 13 (On Medical Mistakes)

On 3 Nov 06, BBC reports that "Six previously healthy men volunteered to test the medication designed to treat rheumatoid arthritis, leukemia and multiple sclerosis. But shortly after they were injected with it their heads and bodies rapidly swelled up. One had all his toes and parts of his fingers amputated. The trials were carried out at Parexel's laboratory at Northwick Park Hospital in north-west London in March on behalf of TeGenero, a German pharmaceutical company." As the story goes, these men did not receive compensation apart from the £10,000 payment for immediate medical expenses, and in the midst of their struggle, they were outraged to hear that the chairman of this laboratory received a big payout totaling $1.76m dollars.

It is clear that the headquarters of medical mistakes have blown it again. Toxins on top of toxins will produce phenomenal negative results and they deserve what they've got. They tried to market another product in collusion with the manufacturing drug company that produced it. Profit was their bottom line and the inevitable suffering was the bottom line of the volunteers. They certainly deserved to be awarded but the medical mistakes should be punished.
