Observation No. 16 (On Our Place International)
By James, March 2007
A friend commented that we at Our Place International are following Ray's words and teaching concepts so closely that it seems like it is at risk of becoming a religion or cult.
I reflected on that as I went for my daily walk.
I met my neighbor who was struck down by stroke recently. He used to be very active and went for his daily swim and exercise in the gym religiously. Now he is confined to a wheel chair and have to be pushed around by his maid. There was a vacant look in his eyes and he could not even recognize me. I wanted to say something to encourage him but could not find the words. What went wrong for him? Was it the diet? Was it the medication? Whatever it was, it is a heavy price to pay.
I drove to my brother's place to visit and as we talked, he took out a huge bag of medication to distribute into small containers for his Mom in-law daily dosages. She has diabetes and other illnesses. It does not surprise me to see her huge stock of medicine because my Dad also takes a lot of medication for his heart and many other illnesses. By the standards of our modern society, these elderly mobile and independent people are considered "healthy". We are told that we cannot ask for more.
The stakes involved in Our Place International's mission is high. It is all about our health and the type of lifestyles that we want for ourselves and our kids as we grow older.
For me, what makes Ray Kent worth listening to is the fact that he teaches from his vast personal experience, understanding what works and what does not. He uses his lifestyle to show me what the body can do if I only treat and feed it right. He walks the talk, and live the lifestyle that he peaches. There is integrity and wisdom in his words. His is a formulae that has been tried and proven to work.
The sad part about all of this is that while everybody wants good health for themselves and their family, very few have enough courage, passion and compassion for their neighbors to speak out like Ray and Siok Khoon, to tell others that their lifestyle will lead them down the wrong road.
I treasure the work that they are doing and I am speaking out in support of them, hoping that more will join in to make this a war cry instead of a soft whisper in wind.
