Observation No. 23: Women, please exercise! Recently, there is a campaign in Singapore to get women to live a ˇ§sporty lifeˇ¨ to stay healthy. Our Comments If you think women havenˇ¦t had enough workout, think again! The average married woman carries more babies than she is capable of, and is expected to work hard to please everyone by being a good mother, a good wife, a good daughter-in-law, a good workerˇKTo manage a household cozy and comfortable for everyone, she is usually the first to wake up early in the morning, she gets everyone ready for the day, then goes to work or attend to household chores, and continues to care all day long for her children, husband, in-laws, etc. etc. etc. and this is supposed to go on until the children and the husband and the in-laws can take care of themselves. If there is one thing that women ever need, it is not exercise but REST. As Ray has pointed out in his article entitled ˇ§True Exerciseˇ¨, exercise is but an expression that comes from vitality. To think that we should work out a tired body to get more energy, more circulation and become healthier is simply against commonsense. Exercise is not the answer to tiredness. We have to ask ourselves, ˇ§Why are women tired?ˇ¨ ˇ§Is it not too much to ask from a human being to perform all the duties expected of a woman?ˇ¨ ˇ§Who sets the rules for woman to live such a tiring life, fulfilling othersˇ¦ expectations and being kept away from fulfilling her very own?ˇ¨ For sure, woman is not the weaker sex who needs to exercise more. To readers who are interested to pursue deeper into this subject, I highly recommend Rayˇ¦s article ˇ§Women --- The Weaker Sex?ˇ¨ as a start, to understand the sufferings of women and how we can heal from unrealistic social expectations. All the very best, ***** |
